Vor kurzem hatte Apple ja den Dienst Placebase geschluckt. Man spekulierte darum über einen eigenen Kartendienst der bei Apple in Arbeit ist, um die Abhängigkeit von Google zu lösen. Aktuell läuft standardmäßig der Google Maps Dienst auf dem iPhone wie wir wissen. Die Gerüchte verstärken sich jetzt dadurch noch, das Apple ein Stellengesuch für einen Programmierer für den Maps Dienst in Full Time aufgegeben hat. Siehe hier. In dem Stellenangebot heißt es:

The iPhone and iPod touch Maps team is looking for a proactive and hardworking software engineer to join our team. The iPhone Maps application is used by millions of customers and it’s the best mapping program on any mobile platform.  Now with iPhone OS 3.0, the MapKit framework allows any developer to embed a fast and easy to use map right in their application. In addition to the Maps application and MapKit framework, the Maps team is also responsible for the new Compass application as well as other location-based services (LBS) on iPhone and iPod touch.

Sehr interessant. Es deutet also immer mehr darauf hin das Apple was eigenes entwickelt, auch wenn man dies nicht direkt zugibt. Wird der neue Kartendienst eventuell schon mit dem iPhone 4G vorgestellt werden? Man weiß es nicht, kann es sich aber gut vorstellen.
